Senior Sally Zhu named Regeneron finalist

Today, senior Sally Zhu was named one of the top 40 finalists in this year’s Regeneron Science Talent Search. Zhu’s project, titled “On the Smoothness and Regularity of the Chess Billiard Flow and the Poincaré Problem,” was chosen by a jury of professional scientists. Zhu is now eligible to attend the final stage of the competition, to be held in Washington, D.C., in March. There, the finalists’ work will be judged and the top 10 prize winners will be selected to win cash prizes ranging from $40,000 to $250,000. Each finalist will be awarded $25,000.

Jan. 10, 2023:

Today, seniors Rohan Bhowmik, Alexander Lan, Krish Maniar, Ashley Ruan, Deeya Viradia and Sally Zhu were named Top 300 Scholars in the 2023 Regeneron Science Talent Search. This year’s scholars were chosen from 1,949 applicants from 48 states. Each of the scholars will receive a $2,000 cash prize and schools will receive $2,000 for every scholar enrolled. The top 40 finalists for this year’s competition will be named on Jan. 24, with the final stage of the competition set to take place in Washington, D.C., in March.

Rishab Parthasarathy named Regeneron Science Talent Search finalist

This morning, the Society for Science announced that senior Rishab Parthasarathy is among the top 40 finalists in the 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search, one of the country’s most prestigious high school science competitions. His research project was among the more than 1,800 submitted for this year’s contest, and has earned him a $25,000 prize as well as the eligibility to win one of the top 10 prizes – ranging from $40,000 to $250,000 – that will be awarded at the end of a weeklong competition held in March. Six seniors named top 300 Regeneron scholars, most for any California school

Six Harker seniors have been named top 300 scholars in the 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search, the most for any California school. Alice Feng, Alex Hu, Rishab Parthasarathy, Sasvath Ramachandran, Aimee Wang and Emily Zhou were among 300 high school seniors selected from 1,804 entries received in this year’s competition. Each submitted original research projects that were the result of months of work.

“In a year where our students, as juniors, had few opportunities to conduct research, they persevered, letting their curiosity and dedication overcome all the challenges of our uncertain times,” said Anita Chetty, science department chair.

Each of the scholars will receive a cash award of $2,000, and each school with a student scholar will be awarded $2,000 to fund STEM programs. On Jan. 20, 40 of the top 300 scholars will be named finalists, who will then participate in the final stage of the competition, which takes place March 10-16.

Four seniors named scholars in 2021 Regeneron Science Talent Search

Today, the Society for Science & the Public announced that seniors Shray Alag, Saloni Shah, Aditya Tadimeti and Sidra Xu were named four of the top 300 scholars in the 2021 Regeneron Science Talent Search. Nearly 1,800 applications from 611 high schools were submitted for this year’s competition. Each of the 300 scholars will be awarded a $2,000 cash prize, and their schools will receive a $2,000 prize for each scholar to fund STEM-related education. This year’s top 40 finalists will be announced Jan. 21.

[UPDATED] Harker Regeneron finalist to be showcased in late July

July 7, 2020:

Today the Society for Science & the Public announced that final events for this year’s Regeneron Science Talent Search will take place virtually later this month after being postponed from their original date in March. Senior Cynthia Chen’s project, titled “Decoding Neural Networks: Discovery of Anti-Tumor B Cell Receptor Motifs Using a Novel Sequence-Based Computational Framework,” will be one of the 40 finalist projects featured in the virtual Public Exhibition of Projects, held Sat., July 25. This year’s winners will be announced during the Winners Award Ceremony, which takes place July 29.  

Jan. 22, 2020: 

The Society for Science & the Public this morning named senior Cynthia Chen one of the top 40 finalists in the 2020 Regeneration Science Talent Search! As a finalist, Chen is now eligible to attend the final portion of the competition, held in Washington, D.C. from March 5-11. Each finalist receives a minimum of $25,000 with chance to win one of 10 cash prizes, ranging from $40,000 to $250,000. During their stay, finalist projects will undergo a thorough judging process, and finalists will also have the opportunity to meet notable scientists and members of Congress. 

Jan. 8, 2020:

Today, seniors Cynthia Chen and Joshua Zhou were named two of the nation’s top 300 scholars in the 2020 Regeneron Science Talent Search. These 300 high school students were chosen from nearly 2,000 entries. Each scholar and his or her school will receive a prize of $2,000. The top 40 finalists will be announced on Jan. 22 and invited to participate in the last stage of the competition, scheduled for March 5-11 in Washington, D.C. Congratulations and good luck!

The Society for Science & the Public announced the 40 finalists for this year’s Regeneron Science Talent Search, and three Harker seniors are among those named! They (and their projects) are:

Ayush Alag, “Computational DNA Methylation Analysis of Food Allergy Yields Novel 13-gene Signature to Diagnose Clinical Reactivity”

Natasha Maniar, “MapAF: Deep Learning to Improve Therapy of Complex Human Heart Rhythm Abnormalities”

Ruhi Sayana, “Precision Care for Leukemia: Discovery of Novel Therapeutics for High-Risk ALL via Epigenetic and Computational Transcriptome Profiling”

Each of these students will head to Washington, D.C., in early March for the national finals.

Jan. 9, 2019: 

Seven Harker seniors – the most of any school in California – were named Top 300 Scholars in this year’s Regeneron Science Talent Search, the Society for Science & the Public announced today. Ayush Alag, Cameron Jones, Natasha Maniar, Ruhi Sayana, Katherine Tian, Cindy Wang and Richard Wang were among 300 students chosen from the 2,000 entries in this year’s competition. Each will receive a $2,000 prize, and Harker will be awarded an additional $2,000, as will every school that produced a Top 300 Scholar.

This year’s 40 finalists will be announced on Jan. 23, and in March they will embark on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the final portion of the competition, during which more than $1.8 million in prizes will be awarded. Congratulations and best of luck to these stellar students!
