Chess enthusiast Mihir Kotbagi, grade 10, participated in the 2023 U.S. Open Chess Championship in Grand Rapids, Mich., from July 29-Aug. 6, placing first in the U.S. Open Scholastic high school championship event. Kotbagi also had success at last year’s event, tying for first with 3.5 out of 4 points.
