Over the last several months, first grader Evelyn Hua has been recognized as a top performer at a series of piano competitions, earning first prize at the World Piano Teachers Association’s Italy International Piano Competition, San Francisco International Piano Competition (earning a Silver Award in the final round), Charleston Virtuoso Music Competition (also winning a Top 15 Most Exceptional Performer Award) and at the Pacific Stars International Piano Competition in both the Prodigy and Composer Theme categories. She also received Gold Awards at the IPPA International Piano Competition and the WPTA Finland International Piano Competition and was crowned Grand Champion in the United States Young Pianists Competition.
Last month, Hua made her first appearance at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, where she performed Haydn’s Piano Sonata, Hob XVI and “Fountain in the Rain” by William Gillock. A video of this performance has been posted to YouTube. In March, she performed for the first time at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall. In her spare time, she performs at a local senior center.
