Last week, Kayla Choi, who starts grade 5 in the fall, won the top award from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The agency held its Invasive Species Action Week last week, which included a special youth art and video contest, in which Choi’s piece received the Invasive Species Choice Award, the contest’s grand prize. The contest invited students in grades 2-12 to submit art based on the theme of “Think Ahead; Stop the Spread,” which encouraged entrants to explore the harms caused by the spread of invasive species.
